What is the AI text prank?

The AI text prank is a harmless AI prank on Dad: you edit a photo of your own house or yard into an absurd upgrade, text it to him as if the work just finished, and screen-record his reply.

A red-brick house photo split down the middle: on the left its front lawn as it is, on the right the same lawn turned into a swimming pool.

It is one wave of the AI photo pranks that have run on TikTok since autumn 2025: in October 2026 the house-upgrade version took off, usually captioned “pranking my dad”. It works because the ask was small. Dad hired someone for a little job, and the photo says the guy went too far, so it has to look like an ordinary phone photo of his own place. His all-caps replies are the real punchline, which is why the posts end on the chat rather than the picture.

How the house-upgrade wave built up in October 2026

  1. @steve.pranks posts “the driveway guys went TOO FAR”: a driveway paved into a parking lot, about 1.42 million views.

  2. @joshaipranks shares a doghouse that was meant to be “simple” and came out a mansion, about 3 million views.

  3. @steve.pranks: “Dad just wanted better Wi-Fi”, with a giant dish on the roof, about 2.38 million views.

  4. @steve.pranks turns a whole lawn into a swimming pool, about 3.42 million views and 314,000 likes.

  5. @steve.pranks: Dad asked for “a SMALL waterslide” and got a water-park tower, about 2.43 million views.

Dates, views and likes: the TikTok posts named above, read on November 1, 2026.

Is the AI house prank safe?

On this page it is: only harmless upgrades are on offer. The 2025 “AI homeless man” version put a stranger inside the family home; police in Salem, Massachusetts warned on October 6, 2025 that such photos had led to 911 calls and waste police resources, and on October 9 PetaPixel reported police warnings in the US and the UK.

5 AI photo prank ideas for your house and yard

Each idea is a small job gone too far, ready-made instead of a prompt you type into an AI prank photo editor. Pick the one that matches the photo you have.

For the dad who just wanted better Wi-Fi: a dish the size of a radio telescope on the roof. Pair it with a line about how the internet should be fine now.

AI prank text messages: what to send and when

This page makes the photo; the texting is yours. The posts that took off run in the same order: the real photo, the upgrade, one twist, then the reveal.

Set the scene

Send the real photo first, with a line about the small job that's starting. It makes the next photo feel like news.

Try: Pool guy just got here. Says it should be a quick job.

Drop the upgrade

Send the upgrade photo with one calm line and no explanation. Let him ask the questions.

Try: He's done. What do you think?

Make it worse once

When he replies, add one detail that makes it worse: the price, the permit, the second phase. Or send another upgrade made from the same photo.

Try: He says the deep end was a free upgrade.

Reveal, then post

Send “it's AI” with the real photo again, then screen-record the thread. On TikTok, open with the upgrade photo and let the chat play; the trend uses #aiprank and #textprank.

Try: Dad asked for a small pool #aiprank #textprank

How do you prank your dad with AI?

Upload one photo of your home, pick an upgrade and send the result to Dad as if it just happened. The photo has to match the upgrade you choose.

  1. Four example home photos: a house front from the street, a backyard lawn from upstairs, a backyard pool and a dog beside its doghouse.

    1 photoYour home photo

Your photo decides the place: the house, the yard, the camera angle and the light, plus anyone already in it, who stays as they are. The upgrade is the only thing added.

    • Shoot the part that gets the upgrade: the front for the lights or the dish, the back lawn or pool for the pool or the slide, the pet's corner for the doghouse.
    • A recent photo, so nothing in it gives the joke away.

What the camera should see

Shoot it like this

  • A small white cottage photographed straight on in daylight, its roof and lawn fully in frame. The whole front, roof to lawn, in daylight
  • A Shiba Inu sitting and facing the camera, its whole body in frame.Pets: the whole animal in frame

Not like this

  • A close photo of a front door and steps with the roof cut off above.Roof or yard cut off by the frame
  • A dark night photo of a house where only a porch light and one window show.Night or dim photos
  • A house wall shot steeply upward from its base, the roof out of view.Steep angles from right under the wall

Shoot, upgrade, hit send

  1. Add your home photo

Choose an upgrade, then add the matching photo from your camera roll.

  2. Generate it

Change the size or the aspect ratio if you like. The button shows the exact credit price before anything is spent.

  3. Save it and send it

Download the photo and send it from your own messages; the order and the lines are in the texting guide on this page.

AI text prank FAQ

Is the AI text prank free?+

No, each photo costs credits. The price depends on the resolution you pick, and the Generate button shows the exact cost before you start. New accounts get 10 credits when they sign up.

Do I need the Cantina or Halo app?+

No. Many of the trend's posts were made in phone apps such as Cantina or Halo, but here it all happens in the browser on your phone or computer: upload, pick an upgrade, save the photo and send it from your own messages.

What prompt do I need?+

None. In the trend's app recordings people type one short line, something like “cover this house with christmas lights”. Here each upgrade comes ready-made, so there's nothing to write. For an idea that isn't on the list, the AI Image Generator takes your own prompt.

Will my house still look like my house?+

That's the aim: the house, the yard, the camera angle and the light stay as they are, and only the upgrade is added. Each run differs a little, so if a detail drifts, run it again. House numbers and other small text may blur.

Can I prank my mom or my boss instead?+

Yes. The photo is the same; only the person you send it to changes. Keep to your own home, or a place whose owner is in on the joke.

Can I do the prank with my dog or cat?+

Yes: pick the doghouse mansion. The doghouse or bed becomes the mansion, and your pet keeps its look, pose and size.

Does it have to be a text message?+

No. Any chat works: iMessage, WhatsApp, Snapchat or the family group chat. It's called a text prank because the joke plays out in the thread.

Are my photos and results private?+

Yes. Results from this page are always private and never appear in public galleries, since a photo of your home can show where you live.

Can this prank get me in trouble?+

Only if someone takes it seriously and acts on it. Stick to the harmless upgrades here, and tell them it's AI the moment they sound worried.

Can I turn the prank photo into a video?+

No. This page makes photos only.
