What is the kung fu cat trend?

The kung fu cat trend is a pet video from October 2026 in which a cat held upright on its owner's lap blocks, palm-strikes and chops a held-out tissue in two, twice, to the “Kung Fu Fighting” chorus. The original is a real cat, not AI: its owner moves every paw while a second hand holds the tissue.

It spread on the deadpan: a fluffy cat keeps a perfectly blank face between strikes, unbothered one second and a kung fu master the next. Most cats would never sit still for it. A reply quoted by tag24 says it for every owner, “i wish i could do that my cat would bite me”, and that is what the AI versions are for.

People also search it as cat kung fu AI, kung fu kitty AI or karate cat AI, and some posts call the cat maoshifu, “master cat”. Two earlier kung fu cats share the name, the AI movie cats and the WAAA cat; this page makes the seated tissue chop.

Where did the kung fu cat trend start?

  1. AI-made cats act out scenes from retro Chinese kung fu films and trend on X: an earlier kung fu cat, fully AI and without a tissue in sight.

  2. The WAAA kung fu cat goes round: AI makes a pet stand up on its hind legs and punch, yelling “WAAA” with every hit. It is a different trend from the tissue chop.

  3. A golden retriever in a white headband chops toilet paper held out by two hands, to the same chorus, and reaches 2.79 million views. The dog got there first.

  4. An orange cat on its owner's lap chops two tissues in a reel posted from Malaysia. It passes 9.6 million TikTok views in five days, and copycats in the US follow within two days.

  5. The first AI version puts a grey-and-white cat in the lead: the same guard, the same raised paw, the same split tissue.

The tissue chop, move by move

The cat version is one handheld 15-second shot: two chops with a stone face between them, then a third tissue that stays whole.

  1. Orange cat on its owner's lap with both front paws held together in a guard beside a long white tissue10:00–0:02

    Guard up, palm strikes

The owner holds both front paws up in a guard while a second hand holds out a long white tissue, then fires off a few quick palm strikes.

  2. Orange cat on its owner's lap with one front paw held straight up beside a long white tissue20:02–0:03

Paw up, and the tissue splits

One front paw goes straight up overhead, pads to the camera, and comes down: the tissue tears in two and a back leg kicks out to the side.

  3. Orange cat sitting upright on a lap, front paws still raised, staring blankly at the camera30:03–0:09

    Stone face, then round two

The cat sits stock-still with a blank stare while a fresh tissue arrives. Then the whole move runs again and the second tissue splits the same way.

  4. Orange cat held upright on a lap with a back paw lifted to the camera, its pink pads in front40:09–0:14

A third tissue, then paw pads

A third tissue is held up and left whole, and the reel ends with the cat's back paws lifted until the pink pads fill the front of the frame.

That is the cat version. The dog version has its own room, a headband and three chops. Compare cat and dog

Kung fu cat vs kung fu dog: lap chop or headband chop?

Both versions take any pet. They differ in the room, the props and the number of chops, so pick by your pet's size and how it likes to sit.

Kung fu cat

On the lap: two rounds, two clean chops

Held upright against a white T-shirt, with a yellow rooster cushion and a zebra throw behind, your pet squares up, strikes, raises a paw and chops a long tissue in two, then does it all again. Best for cats, rabbits and small dogs: anything that sits comfortably on a lap.

Kung fu dog

On the rug: a headband and three rips

In a white headband on a grey rug in front of a TV cabinet, your pet glares at a strip of toilet paper two hands pull tight, taps it with a paw and chops it through, three strips in all, with the camera leaning in before the last. Best for dogs of every size and any pet that sits up on the floor by itself.

FAQ

What pet owners ask about the kung fu cat effect

Do I need a kung fu cat AI prompt?+

No. The guard, the strikes, the chop and the camera all come from the template, so your only input is one pet photo. If you want to describe the trend in your own words, try: “A cat held upright on a lap squares up, palm-strikes and chops a held-out tissue in two, then stares at the camera, deadpan.”

Is the kung fu cat AI generator free?+

No, each video costs credits, and the price depends on the version (the two clips run different lengths) and the resolution you pick. The Generate button shows the exact price before anything is charged, and new accounts get 10 credits at sign-up.

Does my video keep the “Kung Fu Fighting” song?+

Yes. The result keeps the template clip's own sound, and that sound is the “Kung Fu Fighting” chorus the trend is known for, so you can post it without adding music.

Will it look like my pet?+

It should: coat colour, markings and face come from your photo. Now and then the template pet shows through, such as an orange stripe in the cat version or a golden tint in the dog version, and a fast strike can blur a paw; a sharper full-body photo usually fixes it (see the photo checklist above).

Can I make the WAAA kung fu cat here?+

No. In the WAAA version the pet stands on its hind legs and throws punches with a shouted “WAAA”; this page makes the tissue chop, where your pet stays seated the whole time.

Does a person's face show up in the video?+

No human face appears. The cat version shows the owner's hands, arms, white T-shirt and lap, plus the hand holding the tissue; the dog version shows just the two hands holding the paper.

Can I post my kung fu cat video on TikTok?+

Yes, post the download as it is. Tags like #kungfucat or #kungfudog put it next to the trend.

Is this the Kung Fu Cat from The Battle Cats?+

No. The Battle Cats game has a unit called Kung Fu Cat, but this page makes the pet video trend from TikTok, and it isn't affiliated with the game or with TikTok.
